Volunteer Opportunities in Albion

Service to others MLK quote

The midwestern value of "service to neighbor" runs deeply through Albion and Boone County.  Neighbors watch out for neighbors.  And people do their best to show care for each other by giving of their time in meaningful ways.  Many non-profit organizations exist in our community with many opportunities to discover and exercise their gifts.

Check the sections below for organizations accepting volunteers on a rolling basis, as well as short-term opportunities that have been given to our office.

To have your organization listed on this page, please contact Maggie Smith at 402-395-4453 or via email at msmith [at] cityofalbion-ne.com.

Blessings in a Back Pack
Blessings in a Backpack is a volunteer-based organization that provides nutritious supplemental meals in a confidential manner to local qualifying students who face potential food insecurity over weekends and breaks. The program is at no-cost to the families, and it is funded through local donations and grants. Food is packaged on a monthly basis by local volunteer groups so that it can be distributed to students on a weekly basis.

Ways to Volunteer with BIB...

  • Sign your organization up to pack back packs for the next school year.

    • Organizations who volunteer to package food are scheduled prior to the new school year each year. A packing event usually takes about 8-10 people 1.5-2 hours (fewer people can pack if needed).

    • Mollie & Sarah will reach out in late summer to confirm with your group.

  • Last minute opportunities pop up to help pack from time to time.  Please contact Mollie or Sarah if you would like to be on the substitute packer list!
