Albion Economic Development Corporation will continue to offer the Façade Improvement grant throughout the 2015 year or until the funds for this grant are gone. The Façade Improvement Program is a matching grant, up to $5,000, offered to businesses within a mile of Albion City Limits. The grant can be used for new or existing structures. Businesses have used this grant for new signage, sidewalk improvements, parking lot improvements, exterior lighting and general rehab to the façade of the building. Anyone interested in this particular program should contact the AEDC Office (402)-395-3356. Because there is a set amount of funds, we highly recommend that business owners take advantage of the program while it is still available. The application is one page long and can be picked up at the BCDA Office at 233 South 4th Street.
Demolition Assistance is a program AEDC developed to help with tear down cost of dilapidated houses or buildings in Albion. This program is a grant for the cost of the demolition of up to $5,000. The applicant must put a new structure on the lot with a value of at least $100,000. The grant will be not be awarded until the commencement of construction of the new improvements. A determination of whether or not construction of new improvements has commenced will be in the sole discretion of the Board of Directors of AEDC.
The retail and housing communities vote on the approval/denial of both the Façade Improvement and Demolition Assistance grants. If you have any questions please contact an AEDC Board member, call the office or stop in. We are happy to answer any questions on either program.
